Home Affairs Vacancies Post 1: Deputy Director — Appeals

Requirements

An undergraduate qualification at NQF level 6 or equivalent, recognised by SAQA, in Law, Public Management, Public Administration, Policing, Criminology, Forensics or Criminal Justice. Three years’ experience at Junior Management or Assistant Director level in law, and in the analysis and interpretation of immigration information.

Candidates need knowledge of the Constitution, the Immigration Act and its regulations, the Refugee Act, international conventions and protocols, the Civil Aviation Organization, the PFMA and Treasury regulations, and the Public Service Act. A willingness to travel and work extended hours is required.

Duties

Managing the processing of Permanent Residence Permit appeals, including the effective handling of PRP appeals and the review of initial decisions, supporting documents and casefiles. Verifying the completeness, accuracy and legality of submitted appeals, ensuring detailed assessments determine whether a decision should be upheld or modified, and monitoring deadlines so decisions are issued within prescribed timelines. The role also covers stakeholder relationships, risk and compliance, and the management of staff and resources within the unit.

Post 2: Assistant Director — District Coordination

  • Salary: R487 197 – R573 891 per annum (Level 9), basic salary package

Requirements

An undergraduate qualification at NQF level 6, recognised by SAQA, in Public Management, Administration, Public Management or Operations Management. A minimum of three years’ experience as a Senior Administrative Officer, together with experience in coordination.

Basic knowledge of the Civic Services and Immigration Acts is required, along with an understanding of the PFMA and Treasury regulations, departmental legislation, the Human Resources Regulatory Framework and the Public Service Regulations. A valid driver’s licence is required, as is a willingness to travel and work extended hours.

Duties

Facilitating and coordinating district operations to enhance service delivery, monitoring the district budget, and developing and implementing plans. The role involves coordinating the district calendar, meetings and events, aligning district plans with staff and stakeholders, leading the district-level team, and building relationships with district government, civil society and the private sector. It also covers timely submission of financial and operational reports, and compliance management.
