✅ NSFAS 2027 applications are OPEN. They opened on 18 September 2026 and close on 31 October 2026. Apply free at nsfas.org.za.
NSFAS 2027 applications are now open. NSFAS confirmed on its own website that applications for 2027 funding opened on 18 September 2026 and close on 31 October 2026 at South African time.
That gives you a short window, and the portal gets steadily busier as the deadline approaches. If you intend to study at a public university or TVET college next year, apply now rather than in the last week.

NSFAS 2027 Applications: Key Dates
- Applications opened: 18 September 2026
- Applications close: 31 October 2026
- Cost to apply: Free
- Where to apply: myNSFAS on nsfas.org.za, or the official NSFAS app
Documents You Need
Most NSFAS applications fail on paperwork rather than marks. Have these ready before you start:
- Your South African ID
- Your parents’ or guardians’ IDs, or death certificates where a parent has passed away
- Proof of income for everyone in the household who earns — payslips, a UIF letter, or a SASSA letter
- An affidavit where a parent is unemployed or self-employed
- Your latest results — Grade 11 final results now, and your NSC results when they arrive
- Proof of disability where applicable
- An email address and cellphone number you control and will still have next year
How to Apply
- Go to nsfas.org.za and select myNSFAS, or download the official NSFAS app.
- Register with your ID number, a valid email address and your cellphone number.
- Complete the application form in full.
- Upload your supporting documents as clear, readable scans or photos.
- Submit before 31 October 2026, and keep your reference details safe so you can track progress.
You can track your application status from the same myNSFAS profile afterwards.
Do Not Rely on NSFAS Alone
NSFAS does not cover everyone, and the “missing middle” often falls outside it. Other funding is worth applying for in parallel — see everything currently open on our Bursaries page.
Beware of NSFAS Scams
NSFAS applications are free. Nobody can register you, fast-track your application or guarantee approval.
- Never pay anyone to apply on your behalf
- Never share your myNSFAS password
- Apply only through nsfas.org.za or the official app — not through links sent on WhatsApp
- Be suspicious of anyone promising approval in exchange for payment
Our guide to spotting scams covers the warning signs. Looking for work as well? Browse our Jobs page.
Checked against the official NSFAS website on 5 October 2026. Always confirm dates on nsfas.org.za before applying. We are not NSFAS and do not receive or process applications.
