The Mpumalanga Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison is recruiting for its Traffic Officer learnership — the Basic Traffic Officers Diploma programme for 2026/27. You need Grade 12 and a Code B driving licence, and the stipend is R5 000 per month for the twelve-month contract.
Applications close on 23 October 2026. This is a route into a uniformed career that does not require a degree, and it comes with a recognised diploma at the end.

Be realistic about the physical side
This is not an office learnership. The medical assessment exists because traffic officer training involves strenuous physical activity, and shortlisted candidates must prove they can handle it. Think about that honestly before you apply, and start building fitness now if you intend to go through with it.
What the Department Says About Who It Wants
The Department is looking to capacitate youth residing in Mpumalanga with knowledge and skills in Traffic Law Enforcement. All races are encouraged to apply, especially persons with albinism, and applicants must meet the requirements listed above.
The Department notes it will comply with Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) guidelines during the selection process. The training is conducted at the Mpumalanga Traffic Training College at Mkhuhlu (Calcutta) in the Bushbuckridge Local Municipality.
Shortlisted candidates undergo personnel suitability checks, including criminal records checks, citizenship, financial records checks and driving licence verification. Successful candidates are expected to enter into a 12-month contract with the Department and, on completion, learners receive a Diploma in Basic Traffic Officer.
