Purpose of the Position

Key Performance Areas
As an HMR Assistant, your responsibilities will focus on the following key areas:
- Carrying Out Required Tasks: This includes preparing and organizing ingredients for meals, following food safety guidelines, setting up displays, and ensuring that all equipment and utensils are cleaned and ready for use. You will need to perform manual tasks accurately and efficiently to meet the department’s operational standards.
- Assisting with Customer Orders: A significant part of the role involves interacting with customers, taking their orders, and helping them with any questions about the menu items. You will provide efficient, friendly service that ensures customers have a positive experience. This includes handling food orders, wrapping items, and ensuring that customers receive their meals accurately and on time.
- Hygiene and Housekeeping: Maintaining a clean and organized work area is essential in a food preparation setting. You will follow Spar’s hygiene and housekeeping standards to ensure the highest levels of food safety and cleanliness. Tasks will include washing and sanitizing counters, equipment, and utensils, as well as disposing of waste properly and ensuring that all food items are stored safely and securely.
Skills, Knowledge, and Experience Required
To excel in the HMR Assistant position, candidates should possess the following:
- Educational Requirements: A Matric qualification or NQF Level 4 equivalent is essential for this role.
- Experience: At least one year of experience in a similar position or a food service environment is required. Experience in a retail or customer service setting would be beneficial.
- Listening Skills: Good listening skills are important, especially when taking customer orders, as they ensure that orders are fulfilled accurately and according to customer requests.
- Attention to Detail: Attention to detail is crucial for ensuring that food preparation, cleanliness, and customer service standards are met consistently.
